Our Local government client is looking to appoint a Service Lead within the Sports and Leisure arena reporting directly to the Communities and Wellbeing Service Director.

This is a contract role lasting initially until end of Dec 2021, with possibility of extension.


  • Contract till Dec 2021 initially, could lead to longer term opportunities.
  • 37-hour contract, Monday to Friday
  • Approx. salary of £65.5k per annum, some room for negotiation for the right candidate

  • -Leading the Sport and Leisure team within the communities and wellbeing department of the organisation
  • Responsible for seven leisure centres within the area, overseeing multiple project teams / contractors working across repairs, maintenance and enhancement projects as and when required
  • Partaking in the development of the strategies and policies to achieve strategic aims in place at service level
  • Providing leadership of key corporate projects within the community
  • Leading and directing the development and implementation of the Leisure Strategy Delivery plan
  • Developing strong links with relevant agencies and partners including sports clubs, councils and schools as well as the community projects to meet strategies in place
  • Providing effective management and leadership of the team
  • Following budgets in place and providing effective financial management

Requirements / Skills Required:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience.
  • Member of relevant professional body or professional qualification relating to the directorate.
  • Management qualification or willingness to obtain one.
  • Min 5 yrs management experience at a senior level in the leisure / sports sector
  • Proven track record in leadership within the service
  • Experience and success with budgetary and financial management, able to formulate strategies and working with stakeholders.
  • Local government experience and or understanding the workings of
  • Excellent IT skills and able to analyse and interpret complex data around performance and financial information.
  • Able to manage projects and implement change and lead and manage people effectively.
  • Outstanding communication and negotiation skills
