Full Time Contract

Our local authority client is looking for two Direct Payment Officers – one for East Cornwall and another for West Cornwall.  Based from offices in Truro.

The posts involve visiting service users in their homes who have made a decision to receive a direct cash payment to provide specialist advice and guidance to enable the Direct Payment to be set up accurately and within pre-determined timescales.  The post holder will also undertake the review process to ensure that funds are being used appropriately to meet an individual’s eligible social care needs and that reviews are made in line with Care Act guidance.

 Key Tasks

  • Provide support to service users, either face to face or on the telephone, to discuss a wide range of information available to them. Enabling them to meet outcomes identified in their Care and Support plans.
  • Undertaking Direct Payment reviews in line with Care Act guidance to assess outcomes
  • Monitor financial data relating to the usage of either a pre-paid card account or bank account to ensure funds are being used effectively
  • Ensure the appropriate escalation of any concerns regarding management of funds
  • Accurate and timely case management and recording
  • Collaborative working with colleagues and external agencies to ensure outcomes are met
  • Deliver outcomes in line with pre-set key performance indicators.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Excellent communication skills – face to face, written and verbal
  • Demonstrate aptitude for numerical and financial data
  • Flexible with ability to manage own time effectively
  • Work well under pressure
  • Experience of working in social care environment with knowledge of the Care Act 2014 and other legislation relevant to Adult Social Care
  • 4 GCSEs A-C or equivalent and educated to A level standard or equivalent
  • Sound knowledge of IT applications to enable and update amendment of systems capturing accurate information
  • An enhanced DBS will be required
  • The role involves travel on a regular basis – candidates will need to provide evidence that they can exercise satisfactory travel mobility in order to meet obligations of the role.
